These activities usually take place at the weekend and most involve travelling to somewhere outside of Montevideo. The cost reflects this (see individual activities). The cost often depends on the size of the group of students, so prices here are approximate based on a group of six.

1. Punta del Este and Piriápolis A bus tour of these coastal towns includes transport there and back and a guide, who talks about the various interesting places around Piriápolis (such as Pan de Azúcar hill) and Punta del Este (the famous "hand" sculpture, Casa Pueblo, the beaches).
Cost per person $850 (includes transport in minibus, expert guide. Does not include dinner).

2. Mina de Oro A guide takes students to a disused gold mine where they can explore the tunnels, then to have a go on Uruguay's only aerial zip line. Finally the students enjoy a walk through the woodland of Salto del Penitente and learn from the guide about the native flora and fauna.
Cost per person $2500 (includes transport in minibus, expert guide, afternoon snack, emergency medical insurance, all entry fees).

3. Trekking in Cerro de los Ánimas This trip involves climbing a 500m hill, crossing areas of dense woodland and passing the Cañadón de los Espejos and its little waterfalls on the way down, accompanied throughout by a knowledgeable wildlife guide.
Cost per person $1500 (includes transport there and back in minibus, entry to the zone and expert guide).

4. 4x4 Safari A trip in a 4x4 vehicle across the Sierras Occidentales of Maldonado, a traditional lunch in a ranch with spectacular views of the hills, a two-hour horse ride through the area, a further trip in the 4x4 towards the coast including the hill of San Antonio in Piriápolis. Students have free time to explore Piriápolis and return independently by bus.
Cost per person $1700 (includes transport in 4x4 from Peaje Solís, lunch with drinks, expert guide, horseriding).

5. Candombe Workshop The opportunity to learn about this Afro-Uruguayan form of music and dance, and to even have a go at drumming and dancing. Includes a Candombe demonstration, a talk with Candombe experts, music and dance tuition, and the day ends with an optional parilla barbecue.
Cost per person: workshop $800, barbecue $400.

6. Wine Tour Learn about wine-making processes, visit the vineyards and taste Uruguay's home-grown wines in a vineyard tour. This vineyard also boasta a collection of classic cars and a restaurant.
Cost per person $500 (includes guided tour and wine tasting. Does not include transport).
