Apartments :: Spanish immersion programs in South America

Apartments

We have available a range of private apartments for students to live in independently while studying with us.

They are in various neighbourhoods, some very close to the school, others a short bus ride away. All come fully furnished and equipped for a comfortable stay in Montevideo with private kitchen, bathroom, living space and double bedrooms.

Some have balcony or terrace space. La Herradura is located in Parque Rodó, a safe and central area, and one of our apartments is on the next street, just a couple of minutes' walk away.  A second apartment, the most central one, is a couple of blocks away from the main commercial street in the city centre, where you'll find shops, banks, restaurants, and theatres. The third apartment is in Pocitos, which is a fashionable area and has one of the best beaches for swimming and sports in the city.  Our apartment is just a few blocks from the beach.  There are also a lot of nice bars and restaurants in the area

School Residence :: Spanish immersion programs in South America

School Residence

Living in the school is the most convenient option for getting to your classes on time, and it is a nice opportunity to live independently with other students. The school residence is in a charming old house in the safe and leafy Parque Rodó neighbourhood. The school classrooms and office are on the ground floor and upstairs there are five bedrooms for students, with two bathroooms to share.

One of the bedrooms has a private bathroom, and two have a shared balcony overlooking the street. Another bedroom has a second door which opens out onto the roof terrace.

There is a large and fully-equipped kithcen downstaris for the sudents to use, as well as a spacious living-dining room for socialising.

There is a small yard and roof terrace terrace on two floors, where you can sunbathe or have a barbecue.

The school is located about 10 blocks from the centre and 8 blocks from the riverfront promenade (La Rambla).

There are shops, restaurants, markets, supermarkets, bus services and an ATM within a five-block radius. The main bus terminal is also within walking distance, so it is easy to plan and make trips outside of Montevideo at the weekends.

Check-in is on Sundays, and there is a U$S 100 deposit for the keys which will be returned when you leave. Check out is on Saturdays at 10:00. If you wish to arrive or leave on a different day this can be arranged in advance through the school.

  • Included: towels, bed linen, weekly cleaning, your own set of keys, Wi-Fi, use of the school computer and public telephone to receive and make local calls.
  • Not included: meals, use of the washing machine.

Host Families :: Spanish immersion programs in South America

Host Families

Living with a host family gives you a real insight into the Uruguayan lifestyle and you will find your Spanish progresses rapidly as you spend time with local people. All of the host families live within a radius of 5 blocks of the school – just a couple of minutes' walk – in the safe and central Parque Rodó neighbourhood. Staying with locals is the perfect way to accelerate your learning as you will be able to practice Spanish with the family outside of class. You will also get to know the culture and traditions of Uruguay through sharing everyday life with your hosts. You will share two meals a day with the family (breakfast and lunch), and you can arrange to spend time with them in the afternoons and at the weekend. The host families always give their guests a warm welcome and enjoy the opportunity to share Uruguayan life and culture with someone from a different country.

Single, double and twin rooms are all available. Each host family has a shared living or dining room where you are welcome to relax, study, and chat to your hosts and their family or friends who come to visit. If you have a preference you can request a family with or without children, with or without pets, a non-smoking house, or a private bathroom. You will be treated as another member of the family. Check-in is on Sundays and one meal is included that day (lunch or dinner depending on what time you arrive).

Check-out is on Saturdays at 10:00 after breakfast. If you wish to arrive or leave on a different day or have an extra meal with the family, this can be arranged in advanced through the school.

  • Included: towels, bed linen, weekly cleaning, your own set of keys, two meals a day (normally breakfast and lunch) with the family.
  • Not included: evening meals, use of the washing machine (there are several laundry services in the neighbourhood).
