Uruguay is Looking for Volunteers and Interns!

Help Us Contribute to the Development of This Wonderful Country—Are You the Person We’re Looking For?

If you are dedicated, enthusiastic, ready for a challenge, and eager to make a difference where it’s truly needed, we want to hear from you! Please contact us at info@spanish-herradura.com.

Requirements:

  • Spanish Course: A 4-week Spanish course at our school in Montevideo or Punta del Este.

  • Experience: Relevant experience is required for most of the options.

  • Resume/CV: Submission of your resume/CV.

What We Offer:

  • Guidance: Support from the school’s staff throughout your internship.

  • Introductory Meeting: An initial meeting with the on-site coordinator, along with guidance on how to reach your workplace independently.

  • Certification: A certificate upon completion of your Spanish course and volunteer project.

Note: You must be prepared to work with limited resources in a deprived neighborhood and maintain a decent level of physical fitness.

Spanish Course

  • Preparation: Participate in daily group classes at our school in Montevideo or Punta del Este as an intensive preparation for your volunteer project.

  • Course Levels: Available at all levels, from beginner to advanced.

  • Duration: The course typically lasts a minimum of four weeks. If your Spanish is already advanced, you may opt to book a volunteering program without the intensive Spanish course. You can also extend the Spanish course if desired.

Volunteering

  • Start After Your Course: After completing your intensive Spanish course, you will begin your volunteer project, with a minimum commitment of four weeks.

  • Project Options: You may work at:

    • A center for marginalized young people.

    • An advice bureau for young parents (many of whom are teenagers).

    • An after-school play center.

    • An NGO campaigning against domestic violence and abuse.

    • A hospital or clinic.

  • Early Involvement: If you wish, you can start visiting your volunteer project while still attending the Spanish course to prepare for your role.

  • Skills and Experience: Any previous experience or relevant skills (e.g., medical training, computer skills, teaching, social work, administration, or experience working with children, young adults, or vulnerable adults) will be considered.

  • Project Availability: Not all projects accept volunteers or interns year-round due to factors like school holidays. Some projects have a particular demand for volunteers at certain times. Your personal preferences, skills, and experience will help us decide together which project is the best fit for you.

The volunteer organizations we partner with are all non-profit (with some exceptions for internships) and work to improve the daily lives and future prospects of children, teenagers, young adults, adults, and families in Uruguay. They promote a culture of respect, education, health, well-being, and diversity—values we expect our volunteers to share.

If you wish to volunteer in a different area, we will do our best to accommodate your request.
